The Oswego County Municipal Infrastructure Program (MIP) broadband project recently reached a significant construction milestone with the delivery of the project's fiber hut in Fulton, New York.

Funded through a $29.5 million award from New York State's ConnectALL Municipal Infrastructure Program, the county-owned open-access fiber network will bring high-speed broadband infrastructure to more than 2,300 homes, businesses, and community anchor institutions throughout Oswego County.

The fiber hut serves as a critical component of the network's infrastructure. Often referred to as the "hub" of a fiber optic network, the facility houses the electronics, power systems, and network equipment that will support broadband connectivity across the county. Once operational, the hut will function as a central aggregation point for fiber traffic, helping ensure reliable, scalable, and efficient network performance.

The delivery of the fiber hut marks the transition from project planning and make-ready activities into the next phase of construction. Utility make-ready work is currently underway throughout the project area, with underground fiber construction scheduled to begin in July. Aerial fiber deployment is expected to commence this fall.

ECC Technologies continues to provide program management, GIS support, network planning, construction oversight, and stakeholder coordination for the project as the County advances toward full network deployment.

Designed as an open-access fiber network, the infrastructure will be owned by Oswego County and made available to qualified internet service providers on a non-discriminatory basis. This approach encourages competition, expands broadband choice for residents and businesses, and creates a long-term asset that supports economic development, education, healthcare, and public services throughout the region.

As construction progresses, the fiber hut installation represents a visible sign of momentum and a major step toward delivering reliable, future-ready broadband infrastructure to communities across Oswego County.
