Erie County, NY – Erie County Consortium
This ongoing project represents a collaborative initiative between the State University at Buffalo, several medical research facilities, the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority, the Department of Transportation, Erie County Information Services, the City of Buffalo Fire and Police Departments, and Erie Community College. ECC’s role as lead consultant includes forming the collaborative relationships between the various entities as well as the design, engineering, project management and support for the regionally established network. Additionally, ECC secured the needed utility agreements and negotiated the public/private partnerships with carriers and service providers to access this fiber.
This system is operational and currently expanding to include the international airport, additional healthcare, fire departments, police departments, and educational entities. This fiber system, which encompasses greater than 45 miles of fiber installed in and around the city of Buffalo, employs many construction options and challenges. A considerable portion is installed in an operational subway system as the spine or backbone of the system. Laterals from the backbone are provided via directional bores to buildings and or other community owned networks.
